Museum exhibitions

The museum exhibitions of Vanhalinna are available only in Finnish at the moment.

The historic house museum

The traditions of Mauno and Ester Wanhalinna are upheld by the historic house museum of the Vanhalinna manor house. It’s greatest treasures are the furniture originally from Kultaranta, the summer residence of the President of Finland.

Each room tells its own interesting story of Vanhalinna estate and its owners’ history. The rooms are decorated as they were in the 1950’s and the furniture dates back to 1800’s and early 1900’s. The manor house was built in the year 1930.

The Archaeological exhibit

The archaeological exhibit presents the prehistoric valley of the river Aura. The thematically arranged exhibit concentrates on the ancient Vanhalinna hillfort as well as the spiritual life of the burial ground of Aittamäki. In addition, the exhibit presents archaeology as a science: how can we make sense of ancient artifacts and make them tell us of the life of our forebears?

The exhibit is located at the ground floor of Vanhalinna manor.

SAUNA – from spells to steam /
SAUNA – loitsuista löylyihin

The exhibition tells the story of sauna through folklore and age-old traditions. The old ways of bathing in a sauna are still relevant today and can be modified to each one’s unique sauna experience!

The exhibition is open from 9th of June 2026 – 31st of December 2027.

The Roots of Vanhalinna

The Roots of Vanhalinna is a permanent outdoor exhibition, that tells the history of Vanhalinna through old photographs. The exhibition’s signs are located around the manor’s yard and some of them are attached on the walls of the buildings.

The Lieto Bank and piggy bank exhibit

The exhibit, located in the old sauna next to the Vanhalinna manor, presents the furniture and artefacts of one of the banks in Lieto. In addition, various piggy banks are in display. In the building you will also find the room of the bank clerk.
